Charlie Austin's Rant
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/46166143

It's time for more players to express their dissatisfaction with the standard of refereeing in the PL. Yes, they'll get a fine but the more that do it will force the PL act so they don't see their brand tarnished.

As we saw against Spurs, even when VAR is available they still fuck up. It's getting ridiculous.

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
He also moved away from the ball rather than towards it, but other than that and that he was not as close to the keeper (opposite side of the ball as it goes in) then your spot on Brentford.

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
Make that at least 5 feet and i'd agree.

A bit but looked only about a foot.

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
All players/fans want is for the officials to be consistent week in/week out and stop the favouritism for the top 6 sides who get away with murder all the time.

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
Seemed to me he was well to the right of the keeper.

....& he also put the keeper off.

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
Yes but either way he was offside. He was standing in the 6 yard box Infront of the goal and keeper, he shaped as if to try and flick it in with his head, the ref thought he touched it which only shows that he was interfering with play.

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
Wasn't the 'goal' not given because the ref thought the ball had come off Yoshida.

Sven Roeder 3:08 Mon Nov 12
Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
Yoshida’s movement makes it obvious that HE thought he was close enough to influence play
Bit like the Arsenal goal yesterday where the keeper is affected by players in front of him (they were onside though) and delays his action towards the ball.

I’d like Austin to get a 3 match ban just to see Mark Hughes face

The ‘Parklife’ video did make AG!

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
I thought the referee's take on it was completely justifiable. Interfering with play is not a precise offence. Austin needs to take a few deep breaths next time (and not of helium).

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
Dr Moose that's what I said. Originally I think this rule was intended for players say out on the wing that have strayed offside. Which is fair enough.

But yeah. Offside in the box then you're offside period. End of.

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
Agreed, not sure why Lineker, Shearer et al took such a staunch defence of Austin on MOTD. logic dictated if your in the box you must be dividing the keepers attention therefore interferring

Dr Moose 2:05 Mon Nov 12
Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
It should be any player in an offside position in the box is interfering whether they are standing in front of the keeper or elsewhere in the box.

Problem solved.

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
I think that Arnautovic inconsistency is a big thing.
Some teams just get touched and it’s a free kick but I always expect refs to spend all their time waving their arms saying get up when our player is fouled the same way.
Spurs are well drilled at this. Any touch and they are over and refs seem to indulge them
Seems as well that any cynical foul to stop a break is an automatic yellow for a ‘small’ team yet Spurs and Man City do it repeatedly without punishment

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
Never forget the Newcastle goal up there where Scott Parker then a barcode was standing right in front of our keeper offside and the goal stood not interfering with play.

I think anyone in the box offiside is interfering.

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
I could be wrong but I thought the goal was ruled out correcty from what I saw?
Their player was almost in front of the keeper and was interfering enough with play to try and flick it in with his head whether he touched it or not.

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
They know the offside rule OK. If you're Liverpool you never are.

violator 1:42 Mon Nov 12
Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
They could avoid all of the controversy if it went back to the old rules, none of this not interfering or second phase shit.

Sniper 1:23 Mon Nov 12
Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
Not only are refs staggeringly shit but they are also ridiculously inconsistent.

I’d go back to our home win against Man U - Arnautovic was blatantly fouled pretty much every time he got the ball, being held and kicked and tripped. Lindelof in particular had no clue how to play him. But I don’t think he won a single free kick, and ended up off the pitch injured because he’d been fouled so much

Yet you can guarantee that at old Trafford you won’t be allowed to touch lukaku

Re: Charlie Austin's Rant
I agree Sven. No way do these things balance out. Bilic's first season a very good example.
